Cross country splits season-opening dual meet against Albany

VESTAL, N.Y. Junior Ethan Hausamann was second overall in the men s race while sophomore Alana MacDonald was fourth in the women s race, highlighting Binghamton s performance in the season-opening home dual meet against Albany on Friday evening. In the team standings, the Bearcat men won 20-37 but Albany took the women s race 22-33.

Hausamann clocked a time of 26:21 on the 8,000-meter course. Senior Matt Johnson was third (26:25), sophomore Eric Holt was fourth (26:31), senior Andrew Roache was fifth (26:32) and senior Jesse Garn was sixth (26:34).

Christopher Buchanan of Albany was first overall with a time of 26:16.

MacDonald, meanwhile, covered the women s 5,000-meter course in a time of 20:15. Junior Anna Corrigan was fifth (20:18) and freshman Allison Davis was seventh (20:23).

Molly Pezzulo of Albany took top honors with a time of 18:49.

Our guys ran really smart today,” head coach Annette Acuff said. They ran as a pack the whole race and it was a good first meet for them. We held out our top two women s runners but we are pleased with how the rest of the team ran.”

Up next for Binghamton is the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 20.
