Cross country squads compete in pair of meets

VESTAL, N.Y. Junior Alexis Hatcher was fifth overall in the women s race of the Albany Invitational while senior Matt Johnson finished a team-best 41st overall at the men s race of the Princeton Invitational on Saturday. Their performances highlighted the cross country team s performances in a pair of meets.

In the team standings, the Bearcat women were third out of 10 teams at Albany while the men were 11th out of 37 squads at Princeton.

Hatcher covered the women s 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:30. Freshman Allison Davis was 19th (19:15), junior Lizzie Greiner was 33rd, sophomore Eileen O Hara was 39th (19:52) and fellow sophomore Alana MacDonald was 40th (19:53).

Silvia Del Fava of Albany won the race with a time of 17:29. Middlebury, meanwhile, won the team title with 48 points.

There were 110 finishers in the women s race at Albany.

Johnson, meanwhile, clocked an 8,000-meter time of 25:00. Junior Ethan Hausamann was 43rd (25:03), senior Jesse Garn was 55th (25:09), senior Andrew Roache was 68th (25:20) and sophomore Eric Holt was 126th (25:20).

Thomas Awad of Penn won the 301-runner race in a time of 24:00. Villanova won the team title with 45 points.

Up next for both Binghamton squads is the America East Championships, which will be hosted by Maine on Nov. 1.
