BRONX, N.Y. The Binghamton men s cross country team recorded a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet on Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park. It represents the Bearcats second-highest finish ever at the meet, trailing only their eighth-place performance in 2009. The Bearcat women, meanwhile, placed 29th in the team standings.

Senior Vasili Papastrat was the Bearcats top men s finisher, placing 48th overall in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 31:22. Junior Collin Frost was 65th (31:45), sophomore Ethan Hausamann was 66th (31:46), junior Matt Johnson was 68th (31:47) and senior Jason Santos was 91st (32:09).

Binghamton came into the meet ranked No. 14 in the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Poll. In Friday s race, however, the Bearcats beat ninth-ranked Army, No. 11 Northeastern, No. 12 Boston Univ. and No. 13 Brown.

“I am really proud of how our guys did today,” head coach Annette Acuff said. “We raced really well and beat several very good teams who were ranked ahead of us in the region. Today was a great day for us.”

The Bearcats were also the top team from the America East Conference, finishing ahead of New Hampshire (which finished 12th) and Stony Brook (13th).

Markim Korolev of Harvard won the men s race with a time of 30:11. Top honors in the men’s team competition went to Syracuse, which scored just 57 points.

There were 37 teams and 255 runners in the men s race.

Sophomore Alexis Hatcher was the top Binghamton finisher in the women s 6,000-meter race, placing 147th with a time of 22:52. Fellow sophomore Lizzie Greiner was 151st (22:54) and senior Caitlin Jelinek was 174th (23:20).

Abbey D Agostino of Dartmouth won the women s race with a time of 19:48. Providence won the team title with 44 points.

There were 254 women s runners from 37 teams.

Binghamton returns to Van Cortlandt Park next Saturday at noon for the season-ending ECAC/IC4A Championships.
