Track & field competes at Big Red Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y.—Binghamton had six individual winners at the non-scoring Cornell Big Red Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

On the men s side, junior Jared Rousell won the 3,000 Steeplechase (9:46.44), freshman Jon Alkins captured the 400 (49.44) and fellow freshman Peter Fagan was first in the pole vault (16-0 ). Fagan met the IC4A standard in his event.

On the women s side, first-place finishers included junior Ivory Taussig in the 200 (25.06), sophomore Tori Shaffer in the high jump (5-7) and freshman Keishorea Armstrong in the triple jump.

Junior Christy DiMichele was fourth in the women s pole vault (12-1) but met the ECAC-qualifying standard in the process.

Up next for Binghamton is the America East Championships, which will be held this coming Saturday-Sunday at Vermont.

NOTE: Earlier in the weekend, Binghamton sent some of its top athletes to Penn Relays. In the Eastern Section, sophomore Joe Miceli was fourth in the men s pole vault (15-11) and junior Pat Heikklia was fifth in the shot put (53-5 ). On the women s side, Shaffer was fifth in the high jump (5-6).
