HAMDEN, Conn.—Senior Erik van Ingen placed 12th overall in the men’s race, highlighting the Binghamton cross country teams’ performances at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Saturday afternoon at Hammonasset State Park. The Bearcat men were 14th out of 35 teams while the women were 25th, also out of 35 squads.
van Ingen, who clocked a time of 30:17 in the 10K race, remains alive for his second consecutive individual bid to the NCAA Championships. Syracuse and Iona finished first and second in the team standings and cliched team berths. On Sunday night, Providence could receive an at-large bid, meaning van Ingen would be the fourth finisher in the race not on a team going to the national meet. Should that happen, he would grab the final individual spot for the race, which will be held Nov. 22 at Indiana State University.
Last season, van Ingen placed a program-best seventh overall at the Northeast Regional Meet and was also the fourth-highest individual not on a team that advanced to the NCAA Championship.
Graduate student Chris Gaube was 57th (31:18.3) and Adam Quinn was 65th.
On the women’s side, sophomore Lindsay Raulli was Binghamton’s top finisher, placing 82nd in the 6K event.
NOTE: Final selections for the NCAA Championships will be known at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Read the full article at: www.bubearcats.com
