VESTAL, N.Y.—- Juniors Vasili Papastrat and Jason Santos have been named to the America East Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team for the 2011 season. They each earned the honor through a combination of their performance at the recent conference meet as well as their efforts in the classroom. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration. Papastrat placed ninth overall at the Oct. 29 America East Championships, earning his first-ever all-conference honor in the process. In the classroom, he has been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll in both cross country and track. Santos, meanwhile, was 22nd at the conference meet and is a member of the National College Athlete Honors Society. A total of 11 student-athletes were named to the America East Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Squad. Binghamton was one of four schools with at least two honorees. Since 2008, Binghamton has posted a conference-best 12 selections. During that same four-year stretch, the Bearcats have garnered nine all-conference selections. As a team, Binghamton has placed among the top four teams in the conference in each of the past four seasons. The Bearcats won the America East title in 2009 and were the runner up last year. The Bearcats close out their 2011 season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Meet time is noon.
